Midwest Karting Association
General Membership Meeting
03/15/2008
Pizza Hut Hudson Wisconsin
1. Dewey Freier
Jim Barnett announced that the Dewey Freier memorial will be
held on Wednesday night in Anoka. The obituary is in the
Minneapolis Star Tribune on Sunday 03/16/2008.
2. Trophies
There was discussion involving the number of trophies awarded in
the senior racing classes determined by the number of racers
entered. The new format was passed by vote of the general
membership. One through three karts in class, (one trophy),
four or five karts in class (two trophies), six or seven karts
in class (three trophies), eight or nine karts in class (four
trophies), ten or more karts in class (five trophies).
3. Race Day Format
There was discussion on changing the race day format from our
current three heat formula to a new formula which would have
three practices with the third practice being timed. This timed
practice would set the grid for a pre-final race (seven or eight
laps) and this pre-final would determine the starting grid for
the final race (fifteen laps) . The long final race is the only
race that would be awarded points. A vote was taken with the
change to the new format being passed by the general membership.
A motion was then presented to race one day of the two day
weekend using the old format and one day of the two day weekend
using the new race day format. A flip of a coin or some other
chance will be used to determine which format will be used on
Saturday and the opposite format will be used on Sunday. This
coin flip will happen as the first racer pays their entry fees
on Saturday morning. This race day format was passed by a
majority of the general membership.
A motion was then presented to revisit the change and membership
make a final decision during the race weekend of June 28th
and 29th. This motion was passed by the general
membership.
4. Parking
Jim stated that MKA members will not be able to use
the parking area immediately off of the Menard pavement until at
least 7:00 pm on Fridays as Menard is undergoing some
construction in 2008. there will be no parking in some of the
“free” parking area until 7:00pm Friday night. We will find out
just what areas are restricted before the season begins.
5. Young Drivers Moving Up In Class
Jim Barnett revisited the policy involving young drivers moving
up in class and it was restated that drivers younger than the
approved age group can petition the board of directors to allow
their racer to move up in class. Jim Barnett will revisit the
bylaws to determine the “age by” date that young racers can
currently use to enter a race without petitioning the board.
6. Rotax
Dave Billingsley explained the new Rotax class named
“Micro-Max” for 7 to 10 year olds.
7. Restrictor Plate Changes
There was much discussion on the new WKA rules involving the
changes in the restrictor plates including the addition of the
“black” restrictor plate. There was a motion to use MKA’s 2007
rules regarding restrictor plates and to not implement the
“black” restrictor plate at MKA in 2008.
8. Business Directory
MKA would like to get some kind of directory of our members
businesses so our members can consider using those services when
they are in the market.
9. Class Advocates
MKA is trying to get a listing of class advocates to assist
newbys in determining how to improve their performance in their
class. We don’t have official acceptance from some people who
were mentioned at the meeting to be an advocate yet. Mka will
try to put the class advocates name above the class on the pit
board each race day.
10. Clean Up Weekend
The 2008 MKA clean up weekend will be Saturday April 19th.
Some of the projects for this year are

Multitude of other clean up and repair jobs.

with you.
Free practice wristbands for Sunday April 20th
testing/practice will be given out on Saturday April 19th
at approximately 10:00 am for those in attendance and helping.
11. Paddock Spots
Once again members were encouraged to renew their paddock spots
for 2008 on the clean up weekend.
12. Swap Meet
May 3rd and 4th will be the MKA swap meet.
Bring whatever you would like to sell this weekend as there is
probably a buyer out there for just about anything.
13. Shawano Wisconsin
MKA is interested in getting a group together to race at Shawano
Wisconsin (USA International Raceway) this summer. The possible
dates are June 7 & 8, July 5 & 6, and Aug 9 & 10. USA
International Raceway is a top notch facility and will host the
week long Rotax Nationals this year. Their website is
www.usainternationalraceway.com and they have been called
the best karting track in the USA.
The general membership meeting ended at 1:10 pm cdt.
